Regulate Your Nervous System

Hydrate. Move. Stretch.

It hits different than scrolling.

 Focus up, sis.

It’s a new week, and I want to challenge you.

If you find yourself often scrolling, this is for you. Sometimes we open our phones out of habit or boredom, I’ve been guilty too. Sure, maybe I’ll see something uplifting or helpful, but it’s sandwiched between a sea of posts that do nothing but idle my time.

Neuroscientist  Andrew Huberman explains that this constant “hit-and-miss” with content actually changes the way our dopamine system works. Each time we like something, we get a small reward in the brain. But when we see something boring or negative right after, that reward drops. Over time, this loop trains our brain to crave novelty without focus, making it harder to stay present, motivated, or satisfied.

The Newport Institute calls it “zombie scrolling,” warning that it can dysregulate your nervous system and even contribute to anxiety and depression.

Challenge:

I challenge you to stop doom-scrolling and swap it for just 5 minutes of something that will thank your brain and mood:

  •  Go for a walk outside

  •  Meditate or pray

  •  Move your body — stretch or exercise

  •  Turn off the music/podcast and just sit in silenceTry one today. Notice how you feel after.
